Romanian Scope Rail

There is a wide variety of Russian optics that can be easily fitted onto rifles equipped with a receiver mounted scope rail. However before you purchase an optic for your Warsaw Pact rifle you should take a moment to familiarize yourself with your rifle's scope rail design.

Currently there are three main types of clamps used on Russian Optics. The first, and oldest type of clamp is the SVD clamp which is found on most PSO scopes. Because PSO scopes with the SVD clamp cannot be attached to the newer Russian scope rail design, the Siaga clamp was developed. The Siaga clamp allows PSO scopes to be attached to newer weapons such as the Vepr, but it cannot be used with SVD scope rails. The third and most universal clamp is the standard Russian optics clamp. The Kobra for instance is fitted with this type of clamp. This allows it to be mounted on all Russian scope rails as well as all European ones as well. The different type of scope rails are explained further below.

Russian Military Scope Rail
The Russian military scope rail that is in use today can be found mounted upon all recently imported Russian weapons which include: the Vepr, Siaga rifles, Siaga shotguns, and the AK-100 series. This scope rail system allows you to mount almost all Russian optics on your rifle except PSO scopes that have a SVD clamp installed (PSO scopes with a Siaga clamp can be installed upon this rail).

SVD Scope Rail
The SVD scope rail is the oldest rail design in use today. It is found on all Russian SVDs (including the Tigr), and the Chinese family of Dragunovs. A modified version of this rail can be found on some Romanian Romak-1 rifles, and the WUM-1 rifle. The Romak 3 also uses a similar system. All Russian optics except PSO scopes equipped with a Siaga clamp can be mounted upon this rail.

Romanian Scope Rail
The Romanian scope rail can be found on most Romak 1 rifles, the Romak 2 rifle, and the SAR series of Romanian rifles. The Bulgarian scope rail found on Bulgarian milled receivers closely resembles it. This rail system will allow you to mount all standard optics including PSO scopes on your receiver.
